I am serious, she has narccisistic personality disorder. That, or borderline personality disorder. She would be a nightmare girlfriend, wife, friend, etc... to anyone!

I think so, too.  When she had her exit interview, it was  the other 'jealous girls' fault, that she didn't get a rose.  I thought Stephanie, it is never your fault.  It wasn't your diarrheah of the mouth that got you excluded.  Hmmmm, interesting thought.

I agree that Stephanie would make a nightmare glifriend, wife, friend, etc.

However, I think it's inappropriate for us to try to diagnose her online or by reality TV.  I would appreciate hearing an opinion from a medical professional on this--even they cannot make such a judgement under these circumstances.

I do know that borderline personality disorder is a particularly horrible disease that takes a big toll on people and their loved ones.  About 10% of people with borderline personality disorder kill themselves over the course of their llfetimes.

To equate what may be just Stephanie's unpleasant personality with a horrible and often fatal disease can only stigmatize the disease even more.

I know! I was like, I don't remember anyone being jealous of you. lol

She probably would have gone home either way, but her talking bad about people made t happen sooner than later.

Exactly......she has the following (straight from the DSM-IV):
  1. grandiose sense of self-importance
  2. preoccupation with fantasies of power, beauty and ideal love
  3. belief that  she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by other special people
  4. requires excessive admiration
  5. strong sense of entitlement
  6. takes advantage of others to achieve her own ends
  7. lacks emapthy
  8. is often envious or believes others are envious of her
  9. arrogant affect and presence
She is the poster child for narcissistic personality disorder. But, she will never get help for this because of the very nature of the beast. It's uncommon for people to get therapy for NPD b/c of fears of inadequacy that will be brought up. It's a shame.

The significant others of people with NPD have horrible roller coaster rides b/c of  the person's lack of empathy, sense of entitlement, and constant need for attention.  Andy was wise to cut her loose!

Especially given the fact that you are not in the mental health field, there is no way you can diagnose her with NPD..  Which of the above list can you state with any degree of certainty?  Pretty much all of those criteria require that one talk extensively to the patient and/or family.  For example, number 3:: what evidence do you have  that she suffers from this particular delusion/fantasy?  Is it because you saw her  several minute (edited) performance on the Bachelor?  I don't buy it.

I can look at a list like that and see half the people I know in it (including myself) depending on how I interpret all of this.  I can also see myself when I read a horoscope or a fortune cookie.   I'm sure I can make up a (likely wrong) diagnoses for a disease if anyone givers me five symptoms (I'm from a medically related field).  All of this is why you need an interview by a trained and competent professional.  As it is, we simply don't have the knowledge or skill to make such a decision.

The DSM IV criteria were created so that there are uniform rules for health care professionals to make a  reasonable diagnosis--not for any random person to come to  one.  It's not intended as  a quiz for the rest of us.

To make a diagnosis like this is equivalent to doing so with any other disease.

Again, based on the edited performance on the Bachelor she seems to be pretty unpleasant.  We can certainly say that, but to go further and create a medical diagnosis is inappropriate.

This board is all about opinions and judgments. I'm in the mental health field and I'm married to a psychiatrist. My hubby watches too and we both think Stephanie has NPD. Bottom line: no matter what her diagnosis isn't, is, was, or will be, she would be a nightmare to deal with in any relationship.  Andy was smart letting her go. Just an opinion, not a diagnosis, peace.
